Greeting Bombastic Believers!
We’re excited to bring you this last newsblog for March 2022! This newsblog is loaded with a full illustration from one of our projects, things that are catching our eye right now, and some other cool stuff that we wanted to share with you. Like every edition, our goal for each newsblog is that these weekly updates are inspiring, encouraging, and fun for everyone who reads them. We hope that this newsblog, and all the others to come, can accomplish this in spades for every reader.
1) Showing Off a Full Illustration! -
From the Children’s Book Development Division
This week, Pixie and I wanted to share with you a glimpse at one of the fully rendered pages of the children’s book dummy we’ve been working on in recent months! This scene here comes from our Christmas story that we’ll be shopping to different publishers across the country in the hopes that it can either be published or that it gets our foot in the door to be able to create stories in the industry. What do you think? Do you like this illustration and want to see more? Please write to us at thebearandpixieblog@gmail.com to let us know your thoughts! If you like this kind of content, we’ll definitely be showing more stuff like this in the coming months so make sure you’re subscribed to our newsblogs to never miss another glimpse at what we’re working on.
2) I Think We’re Becoming Ghibli Shills! –
From the Department of Animated Storytelling
Pixie and I are quickly sounding like we can’t do anything else but heap praises upon Studio Ghibli and their work. This week’s newsblog is no exception as we wanted to talk about another one of our favorite Studio Ghibli films, again directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Howl’s Moving Castle. This absolute work of art is chock full of what makes every Miyazaki film so wonderful. HMC has lots of interesting characters, incredible worldbuilding, beautiful animation, moving music, and so much more! If you haven’t seen this movie yet, this is an absolute animation classic that is a must-see film for every person on the planet whether you are a movie geek or not. From the very start of the show, the story pulls you in and doesn’t let you go. It’s a story about healing, acceptance, and so much more. Our official Bear & Pixie rating is a well-earned 10 out of 10 for this film’s stellar pacing, character development, use of setting, and heartwarmingly deep story. If you’re looking for something to put in your watchlist, this has to be next! You can stream Howl’s Moving Castle on HBOMax if you have a subscription or buy it on Blu-ray as well as digitally. Please go see this movie as soon as you can. Or, if you’ve seen it already, you can always rewatch it as this movie is one that you can see over and over again as it gets better after each watch. 3) Artist Shout-Out
From the Artist Relations Department
For this week’s Artist Shout-Out, we recently discovered a new artist that we just had to shout-out this month. Simz is an artist that we just found on Instagram and it didn’t take long for us to fall in love with their work! Simz has an innate ability to figure out the best composition needed for each piece, how to use color to make each part of the illustration pop, and using light and shadow to emphasize each piece of her art in a unique way. Simz’s stuff is genuinely amazing and is something you have to experience for yourself so please head over to their Instagram as soon as you can and give them a follow! Link to their Instagram and Linktree are below. [We are not sponsored by Simz. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

4) Dinosaurs are Still Being Discovered! -
From the Extraordinary News Division
A little over a month ago, a news story came out that the largest pterosaur fossil ever had been found in Scotland! It’s so amazing how many secrets our beautiful planet still holds. I love hearing about all the new discoveries that are made about our planet’s past and how the history of the world has unfolded over millions of years. This story is another one of those moments that shows us all that our world is still filled with wonder. If you want to learn more about this amazing dinosaur for yourself, please check out the link below! [We are NOT sponsored by any news organization. We are just wanting to share something cool with our incredible fans.]

5) A Superhero Story for a New Age! –
From the Storytelling Division of the Comics Department
Just recently, I read this great new comic, put out by Image Comics that pleasantly surprised me. Written by author Kyle Higgins and illustrated by Marcelo Costa, Eduardo Ferigato, and David Lafuente, Radiant Black is a story about a struggling writer who, after piling up massive amounts of credit card debt, has to move back in with his parents to try and start over again. He then, alongside his best friend, run into a strange, floating black hole that changes his life forever! This story is a new, refreshing take on the classic superhero comic story with plenty of twists and turns that keep you engaged from start to finish. With a more modern style of writing, well-crafted overall story, and intriguing characters, this book will keep you on your toes and waiting anxiously for the next chapter to help show you what happens next. Our official Bear & Pixie rating for this comic is a solid 8 out of 10 as, even though the story does some new things to differentiate itself from other comics in the genre, it still sometimes has lackluster dialogue and dips in the pacing here and there. However, it still does a lot of things exceptionally well and serves as a great starting point that sets up the story to continue going in new directions.
