Unfortunate News, Hopeful Change

Greetings Fantastic Followers!

We’ve returned with another weekly update! In this newsblog, we’ll be discussing some of the hard realities of trying to create a robust story project, showing you some great entertainment that you should check out, and discussing other fun stuff that we’d like to share with you. Either way, we hope this newsblog brings some joy and fun into your week!

1) The Rough Road of Creative Development -

From the Department of Creative Project Development

This week, we wanted to take a second and really talk about the history of our creative projects here at Bear & Pixie Art Studio. As you may know, we currently have one completed project under our belts in the children’s book The Perfect Flower. After we completed that project, we were anxious to get into another realm that we are super passionate about. Creating a webcomic. First, we thought we would be able to do that through a project under the name of Chasing the Sun. Unfortunately, that project fell out alongside some other personal things in our lives which prevented us from pursuing it further. After that, between Soul Canvas and Ulterior Motive, we really couldn’t settle on either one of those projects. We just didn’t feel like they had enough behind them to really carry through all the way to the end. You see, we want to create something great that lots of people enjoy and love. On both projects, we just didn’t feel like they were in a state to accomplish that and that it would have taken too long to put them there.

So, for the final time, we have decided to move onto a different project, one that I have been developing on my own for many years. Heck, I was toying with ideas for a story ever since middle school that I have been tweaking ever since. We were waiting to start this project as I had dreamed to eventually be capable enough as an illustrator to draw it all on my own. However, Pixie and I have come to the realization that this project would absolutely be perfect for us with her artistic style and my writing. So, we’ve decided to move forward with this webcomic which I have lovingly dubbed Terrible Twosome. This webcomic is inspired by the likes of Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, This is Us, Up, Zits, and many more amazing stories as it follows a young set of twins on their crazy adventures through life. Each comic will feature them being philosophers, adventurers, and wacky kids as we watch them grow up over 10 years of time. Basically, I always thought it would be interesting if we had seen Charlie Brown, Calvin, or Jeremy grow up in real time as their comics progressed and, with Terrible Twosome, you will get to see our main characters, Addy and Andy, do that over the life of our webcomic.

We are so excited for this project, and we will assuredly be finishing this one out. No more pivoting. No more retooling. We are committed for the long haul with these kids, and we can’t wait to show you this story as we continue to work on it in the future. We are so sorry for all the repeated changes in direction here. We hope that you don’t mind and that you’ll stick with us for the long journey ahead. 2) To Infinity and Beyond! –

From the Department of Animated Storytelling

Pixie and I recently went and saw the new Pixar movie Lightyear and we thought it was a fun ride. Now, something I will have to admit here to be completely open and honest with you, I have seen this movie twice. Now, I haven’t seen it twice because it was that good, rather, I have seen it twice because I love the character so much as well as the desire to see the overall presentation of the movie again. Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that this movie has some great themes, fun characters, and decent plot. However, if I really stepped into the role of unbiased movie critic, I would have to admit that this movie is slightly above average only because of the production quality of the film rather than its actual merit. If you and/or your family are looking for a fun movie to watch, I would go check it out! Nonetheless, I will be the first to admit that it is not the best Pixar movie, but it is still a great movie. Our overall score for this one it would be a 7 out of 10 on the Bear & Pixie scale. If you feel so inclined, you can see this at your local theater or wait for it to come out on Disney+. Either way, this movie is worth watching for sure. [WE ARE NOT SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANY. We are only giving you a genuine, un-sponsored recommendation.]

3) Artist Shout-Out -

From the Artist Relations Department

Our pick for this week’s Artist Shout-Out goes to the amazing illustrator that goes by the name of Caro Vázquez on Instagram. Her art has an inherent wonder to it that you can see within every piece. She is a spectacular colorist, designer, and illustrator who can use color, light, shadow, and composition in fantastical ways. Caro’s art is worth following on Instagram for and, if you feel so inclined, you can check out Caro’s Behance link below if you would like to support her that way as we completely deserves it in our view. Regardless, let’s all show some love to Caro for just being an incredible artist! [We are not sponsored by Laan. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

4) Scientists Have Discovered Something Incredible that a Very Creepy Friend Can Do! -

From the Fascinating News Division

Just recently, I saw this interesting article explaining how scientists have figured out that the venom from a K’gari funnel web spider can serve as the basis for a medication that prevent lasting damage from heart attacks and possibly even strokes! Don’t believe me? If you’re interested in getting more info on this topic and finding out for yourself, you can check out the article in the link below! 5) A Cool Idea for a Story Explored in a Mediocre Comic –

From the Creative Story Department

I just started stepping back into some more American comics as of late and have stumbled upon a comic that, when I saw, I thought “Someone took my idea for a video game and made it into a comic!” Crossover, written by Donny Cates and illustrated by various artists such as Geoff Shaw, Dee Cunniffe, and John J. Hill, Crossover basically takes the idea of “What if everything in comics, movies, and fiction were made real in our world?” This comic then takes that idea and runs with it in some interesting ways but, in my opinion, these inventive ideas tend to fall short as they are more played off for comedic effect, rather than being done for the sake of the story. A few years ago, I had thought of a video game that took this idea and turned it into an open-world, God of War style third-person action game which I still think would make an awesome video game on a gameplay as well as story level. I have always wondered, what would happen if Thor’s hammer showed up one day in Los Angeles or if a Green Lantern suddenly was found in Baltimore. Could you imagine what would happen if all those items, or heck even those characters, showed up in our world? What would happen to our economy? What would happen to the social structure of our society? There are so many interesting things you can do with a story like that! Unfortunately, Crossover doesn’t really delve into any of that too much. Honestly, it just brings in a few famous characters from comics, and the artists that draw them, for a one-off story that doesn’t really have much consequence due to the contained nature of its events, doesn’t use its interesting premise in any impactful ways, and overall, mainly serves as an exercise of ego for the creators that are featured within its pages. I would give this comic a 5 out of 10 and would only recommend this comic if you’ve got money to spend and are wanting to see some slightly interesting stuff throughout your reading time. If you want to check this comic out for yourself, you can click the picture below to get a copy for yourself of the first volume. [We are NOT sponsored by any company.
