Getting Off to a Great Start!
Hello Amazing Adventurers!
We’ve got a new weekly update for all our lovely followers! In this newsblog, we’ll be talking about some new aspects of our upcoming webcomic, showing you some great entertainment that you should check out, and discussing other fun stuff that we’d like to share with you. Either way, we hope this newsblog brings some joy and fun into your week!
1) Initializing Work on Our Webcomic -
From the Comic Storytelling Department
This week, Pixie started putting together some initial sketch ideas for our upcoming webcomic Terrible Twosome. Now, in this sketch, the main characters Addy and Andy are technically flipped when it comes to what each of them would be doing in this situation of Twins vs Crab. However, this image gives you a little bit of a feel for the webcomic itself. In essence, this upcoming project is truly a slice-of-life style story with inspirations from Calvin & Hobbes, Peanuts, This is Us, Modern Family, My Giant Nerd Boyfriend, eventually when the kids are older some Zits influence, and more. Honestly, I’ve had this idea for a comic since my early high school days and have always wanted to create a strip of characters that age as the story progress from year to year. In all honesty, Pixie and I envision us working on this specific project for years to come as we take the characters and story through many different funny and heartwarming situations, moments, and shenanigans. If you’re at all interested in this project of ours, stay tuned as we’ll be showing a lot more in updates to come!
2) A Family Adventure Worth Watching! –
From the Anime Movie Division of the Department of Animated Storytelling
Pixie and I recently watched an animated movie that came out last year directed by Mamoru Hosoda called Belle and it reminded us of his other work that we’ve seen and been amazed by. One of his movies that we’ll be talking about today is Mirai. Mirai follows the story of a four-year-old boy named Kun who one day encounters his new baby sister, Mirai, as a teenager from the future. Throughout the course of the movie, they embark on a journey through the history of their family’s lives and learn more about their family’s riveting history along the way. Initially, Pixie and I had no idea what to expect from this movie. The plot sounded interesting enough, but we had no idea what we should expect going in. Suffice it to say, we were very pleasantly surprised by the films incredible art, an amazing story, and fascinating characters. This movie must be on your watchlist as it turns an otherwise simple plot into a story that is worth watching at least twice. We at Bear & Pixie Art Studio give this movie a well-earned 8 out of 10. If you’re looking for a great anime movie to watch that is on par with the works of Studio Ghibli, then Mirai is a movie you don’t want to miss! You can purchase this movie on-demand on your favorite movie-streaming service, or you can purchase a physical copy of it through Amazon by clicking the picture below. 3) Artist Shout-Out -
From the Artist Relations Department
Our pick for this week’s Artist Shout-Out goes to the amazing illustrator that goes by the name of Lily/Sugarmints on Instagram. Lily’s art is incredibly vibrant with its deeply rich colors and brilliant lighting. Most of her pieces take characters we all know and love and transports them into beautiful landscape. Lily’s art is something you absolutely need to check out for yourself. If you feel up to it, we highly recommend giving her a follow on Instagram and checking out her Carrd website to support Lily’s art. [We are not sponsored by Lily/Sugarmints. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

4) Scientists Develop the First “Necrobots” Out of Some Creepy Crawlies! -
From the Fascinating News Division
Just recently, I saw this weird, compelling article that was talking about how a group of scientists at Rice University have been taking dead wolf spiders and using their corpses to house some robotics to repurpose them for further use. It’s as creepy as it sounds but also does bring up a lot of interesting ideas for their application as well as some ethical questions to boot. Interested to find out more about what they could be used for or how they work? Go check out the article to find out for yourself! [We are NOT sponsored by any news organization. 5) This Anime is on Fire! –
From the Anime Show Division of the Department of Animated Storytelling
Pixie and I recently discovered a new anime to watch in the form of the sensational Fire Force. This show follows Fire Soldier Shinra Kusakabe as strives to become a hero and save people in his world from what is called “Spontaneous Human Combustion.” Every day, the people of Shinra’s world live in fear of one day catching on fire out of the blue. Shinra, along with his other company members in Fire Force Company 8, are on a mission to end “Spontaneous Human Combustion” and investigate the other Fire Force Companies to make sure they are on the up and up. This show is awesome with some spectacular art, amazing sound design, gripping story and world, and fun characters. It does suffer from what many other anime does when it overly objectifies its female characters (rather excessively) and doesn’t treat them like active agents in the story who can make an impact on it. Additionally, sometimes a lot of the female characters are just there to be saved. However, there are moments when some female characters aren’t objectified and aren’t damsels in distress as well. Overall, this show is a great one! With each passing episode, it leaves you with the itch to keep watching as you delve further and further into the plot and world it depicts. Here at Bear & Pixie Art Studio, we give this show an official rating of an 8 out of 10. We think you should check this one for sure and, if you feel so inclined to, you can click the picture below to view it on CrunchyRoll! [We are NOT sponsored by any company.
