1) A Look at Addy Through the Years -

From the Visual Development Department

This week, we thought it would be fun to show you our idea for what Addy will look like at various stages over the course the entire length of our upcoming webcomic Terrible Twosome. As you know, one of the dreams we have for this project is to have all the characters age in real time as the comic progresses over the years that we create and work on it. In this artwork, done by the very talented Pixie, you get to see that concept played out. Now, to be completely upfront here, this is just a working concept, and these looks are not final for at least the middle and high school eras shown here. However, this at least gives you an idea for what we’ll be going for in the comic. Soon, we’ll be looking at this same concept with our other main character, Andy. So, as always, keep your eyes peeled for all things Bear & Pixie to hear further updates if you like what you see here!

2) A Heartwarming Adventure That Lives Rent Free in Our Heads Forever! –

From the Anime Movie Division of the Department of Animated Storytelling

The seemingly eternal loop of Ghibli movies continues as Pixie and I recently found ourselves rewatching Kiki’s Delivery Service, another great film by Hayao Miyazaki, with my grandmother. The great thing about this viewing experience, which sets it apart from many others, is that this instance was the first time my grandmother had ever watched a single Studio Ghibli film. It was exceptionally cool to see how, even over generations, the quality of a Studio Ghibli movie shines through as it captivated her with the movie’s whimsical music, great writing, and relatable story. Kiki’s Delivery Service, a story about a young witch beginning her journey of independence as a witch as she searches for a city to live in, what she would like to specialize in as a witch, and ultimately who she would like to be as a person for the rest of her life. Throughout this personal journey that she embarks on, Kiki battles a form of artist’s block, loneliness, and even depression. Miyazaki, throughout the film, expertly tackles each issue with a great amount of tact and thoughtfulness rarely seen in film. With it’s gorgeous animation, likeable characters, and well-executed story, Kiki’s Delivery Service is a film that fires on all cylinders from start to finish with great effect. For us at Bear & Pixie, we give this movie a well-deserved 9 out of 10 as this movie continually holds a very special place in our hearts not just for its outstanding quality, but also because of its relatability to our own lives and struggles. 3) Artist Shout-Out -

From the Artist Relations Department

Our pick for this week’s Artist Shout-Out goes to a truly amazing illustrator who goes by Anne-lise Nalin on Instagram. Anne’s art is completely worthy of our artist shout-out as the line work, color, shading, and composition of their work is always eye-popping and instantly engrosses us with each new piece they create. If you feel so inclined, the link to their Instagram is below if you would like to give them a follow there to see more of their awesome artwork. [We are not sponsored by Anne-lise Nalin. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

4) Robot Landlords are Closing in On the Housing Market! -

From the Fascinating News Division

Just recently, I saw this article talking about the new phenomenon of the “automated landlord.” What’s that, you may ask? It’s a computer program that allows Wall Street investors to buy up single-family homes that are perfect for first-time home buyers to be able to maximize their already huge real estate portfolios. We at Bear and Pixie usually don’t cover this kind of stuff. Honestly, we like to keep things light and fluffy most of the time with some interesting articles showing cool advancements in technology or art. However, with this one, we thought it’d be a good idea to share this with all of you so we can all stay informed on how to effectively navigate the world in a way that benefits those who need it. We definitely recommend you check out the article to equip yourself with the knowledge you may need to stay successful and one step ahead of predatory schemes that seem to permeate our modern world. [We are NOT sponsored by any news organization. We are just wanting to share something cool with our incredible fans.]

5) A New Show That is Making Big Waves in the World of Animation! –

From the Animated Show Division of the Storytelling Department

Recently, I started watching one of the newer animated shows to hit the scene on Netflix, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners which is based on the world of the game Cyberpunk 2077 that came out just a few years ago. Lately, it seems like everyone, and their dog, has been recommending this show to me to watch. So, after a couple months of wearing me down, I finally decided to cave to the mob of people telling me to watch this show and boy am I glad I did. Right from the start, this show reels you in with some incredible animation, crazy action, and really interesting characters that suck you right into the story as you root for them to succeed in the horrible, putrid city that they all find themselves stuck in. Now, be warned, this show is not for the faint of heart as it has massive amounts of gore, actual nudity, and lots of other tawdry elements to it that a show that is only for a mature audience. If that stuff doesn’t bother you, then I would highly recommend watching this show as it has excellent pacing, fascinating worldbuilding, and stellar writing overall for all its different characters, story points, and more. Honestly, I can’t recommend this show enough as it’s one of the best things I’ve watched in recent memory. With all that being said, we feel like this show easily earns a 9 out of 10 on the official Bear & Pixie rating system due to all the elements listed above. If you feel so inclined to do so, you can watch this show by clicking on the picture below on Netflix if you have a subscription! [We are NOT sponsored by any company. We are only giving a genuine opinion/recommendation.]
