1) Scriptwriting is Underway! -

From the Webcomic Development Division

This week, I thought it would be interesting to talk about the scriptwriting process as we’ve really begun putting together the beginning set of strips for our upcoming webcomic, Terrible Twosome. One of the main things that I have learned, at least for myself, over these last few years as a writer is that the beginning of a story is often the most difficult to write. It’s so hard to figure out what the initial chapter, the first strip, or the starting bit in your story is going to be. Not only that, but the start of a story must accomplish a myriad of things. It must be a satisfying starting point, it must encapsulate the overall feel of the entire store itself, and it must set up all the characters so that the audience really feels like they get to know them right off the bat. Beginnings are inherently required to be multi-faceted. For Terrible Twosome, it’s no different. Sure, I’ve got a bunch of ideas for various strips already that involve lots of different characters. However, that initial “jumping off” point for the entire comic still eludes me. As I’ve been stuck in the writing process, my mind instantly went to an interview I had seen with movie director, Quentin Tarantino. He too, often struggles writing beginnings to his stories. Often, when he finds himself stuck in a similar predicament to my own, he likes to immerse himself within the characters to let them help him figure out the beginning. He posits that, “if your characters are strong enough, they usually guide you as you write your story.” In this instance, my characters are taking their sweet time telling me what the beginning of their story is going to be. Regardless, as I continue to figure out the beginning to Terrible Twosome, I will be listening intently to the voices of my characters. I know, at some point soon, they will guide me to where they want to go. When that time comes, I can’t wait to share it with you all! So, if you’re interested in finding out more about Terrible Twosome and eventually hearing about what that beginning is going to be, stick around for all things Bear & Pixie!

2) A Puss in Boots Film That Packs a Punch for All Audiences! –

From the Animated Film Division of the Department of Storytelling

This last weekend, Pixie and I saw the new DreamWorks film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Ever since we saw the first trailer for this film, we were excited to go and see it for ourselves and it did not disappoint! Not only is the film beautifully animated, but its story is also touchingly mature in so many ways. Every inch of this movie is chalk full of vibrant colors, interesting characters that develop in uniquely fascinating ways, and a healthy dose of fun that put you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. If it wasn’t evident already, we highly recommend that everybody goes out and sees this in theaters. Honestly, it’s one of those films that is a must watch on the big screen to be able to experience the true power that lies behind every frame of this flick. This leads us at Bear & Pixie to give this movie a 9 out of 10 as it is truly a fantastic film and might just be one of the best movies DreamWorks has ever made. In our opinion, you need to check this one out in theaters as soon as possible! So, what are you waiting for?! Go check it out in theaters while you still can! [WE ARE NOT SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANY. 3) Artist Shout-Out -

From the Artist Relations Department

For this week’s Artist Shout-Out, we couldn’t help but pick another of our favorite artists out there right now, we picked an illustrator that goes by Madivoid on Instagram. Her art has so much energy, life, and color to it that make it stand out from other artists in a unique way. Madivoid’s use of line and watercolor style painting instantly draws you in to each piece and mesmerizes you with its beauty. In our opinion, her art is so good that it definitely deserves a follow on Instagram. Also, if you feel so inclined, this amazing artist’s websitelink is below if you would like to support Madivoid any further. [We are not sponsored by Madivoid. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

5) An Amazing Manga That is Literally Incredible in Every Way! –

From the Manga Division of the Storytelling Department

Recently, I started a brand-new manga that was recommended by lots of YouTubers and forums alike, Asadora. This manga is one of those sleeper hits that you have no idea even exists until someone mentions it. So far, I’ve read the first two volumes and I can’t wait to finish the final four. The story follows a girl named Asa who, after surviving a massive typhoon that takes away almost everything she knows, realizes that there was something big behind the typhoon after all. This manga packs a serious punch with its incredible characters, well-drawn art, and perfectly paced story. All throughout, creator Naoki Urasawa pulls you into this manga and doesn’t let you go as you keep flipping through each page. It was seriously so good that I absolutely could not put it down and was itching to read the next page. I highly recommend you read this one for yourself as it is easy to collect at only 6 volumes in length, is spectacular in every single way mentioned above, and will really impact you in a big way through its themes and ideas. For us, we feel like this manga easily earns an 9 out of 10 on the official Bear & Pixie rating system and we highly recommend you check out this show for yourself. You can look at getting any, or all, of the volumes if you so choose by clicking on the photo below. [We are NOT sponsored by any company. We are only giving a genuine opinion/recommendation.]
