We hope you all enjoy this update and hope you all are as excited for summer to start as we are!
1) Developing the Stomping Grounds of Our Terrible Twosome! -
From the Webcomic Development Division
This week, we thought it would be cool to show you a little bit of the environment that our Terrible Twosome will be frequenting within our upcoming webcomic of the same name. Like I’ve said before, one of the main ideas I had for this project was to show our main characters aging in real time as the strip goes on. The house that the Adkins family will live in throughout the strip will do this as well as I think we all know that the house we live in usually changes with us throughout the years. Through this first initial look, that was kindly rendered out by our wonderful Pixie, you get to see a little bit of the Adkins house in all its glory! Also, to be fair, this was a rendition of a house she did for a children’s book idea we had called The Perfect Christmas so we thought, “Hey, if it aint broke, don’t fix it and see if we can use it somewhere else!” That is the true test of a creator is how well you can take things from other projects and retool them for others. So, if you like what you see here, and would like to see more of Terrible Twosome, please stay tuned to all things Bear & Pixie for more sneak peeks throughout the months ahead leading up to its launch.
2) Yet Another Great Studio Ghibli Film Worth Watching! –
From the Anime Film Division of the Department of Animated Storytelling
Are you surprised? This week, I find myself watching even more Studio Ghibli as I watch Hayao Miyazaki’s The Cat Returns. This one is one of Pixie and I’s favorites of the Studio Ghibli lineup due to its incredible worldbuilding, fun story, and fascinating characters. Through that beautiful Studio Ghibli animation that we all know and love, Miyazaki uses this film to tell a story about Haru, a girl who gets swept up into a wild adventure full of sentient cats after unknowingly saving the Prince of the Cats from being hit by a car in her world. The film has lots of valuable little lessons sprinkled throughout while also be quite charming and engaging with its robust casting, stellar performances, and well-executed pacing. At Bear & Pixie, we give this movie a well-deserved 8 out of 10 and recommend that you check it out at least once. If you’re interested in seeing this one for yourself and you have a current HBOMax account, you can watch it by clicking the picture below. [WE ARE NOT SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANY. 3) Artist Shout-Out -
From the Artist Relations Department
Our pick for this week’s Artist Shout-Out goes to the amazing artist Veronika who goes by LadySharlirin on Instagram. Veronika’s art is characterized by a great use of color and wonderful eye for composition. Every one of LadySharlirin’s pieces oozes life and energy that makes it leap off the screen. In our opinion, Veronika’s art is definitely worthy of a follow on Instagram. Also, if you feel so inclined, this amazing artist’s Linktree link is below if you would like to support LadyShalirin any further. [We are not sponsored by LadyShalirin. 5) A Memorable Anime That Pulls at All Your Heartstrings –
From the Anime Storytelling Division
Recently, I started rewatching one of the very first anime that I started watching when introduced to the genre, Violet Evergarden. The story follows a woman with cybernetic hands named Violet Evergarden who works as an “Auto-Memories Doll” that writes letters for other people. Initially, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this show. However, as I continued to watch the series, the story unfolded into a beautiful tale about dealing with PTSD, love, loss, and more in an anime that leaves a lasting impact on everyone who watches it. It is one of the most well-written animes I have ever had the pleasure to watch. In our opinion, this anime is a very solid 8 out of 10 on the official Bear & Pixie rating system and we highly recommend you check out this show for yourself. If you feel so inclined to do so, you can watch this show by clicking on the picture below on Netflix if you have a subscription! [We are NOT sponsored by any company. We are only giving a genuine opinion/recommendation.]
