Some Exciting New Announcements!
Greetings Amazing Adventurers!
We’re back with a brand-new newsblog after a long hiatus with some exciting announcements! In this one, we’ll be talking about some surprises we’ve been putting together over the last few months, our thoughts on some recent entertainment, and a whole lot more in this issue of our newsletter. Let’s kick off the fall right with a little pick-me-up in the form of this studio update!
1) We’re Selling at Rose City Comic-Con in Just a Couple Weeks! -
From the Department of Business Opportunities
Pixie and I will be heading up to Portland, Oregon to sell as a vendor at Rose City Comic-Con from September 22nd through September 24th! We are excited to start this new opportunity for our business as we plan for RCCC to be the start of our convention endeavors for the foreseeable future. We will be documenting our whole convention adventure as we go along to share with all you lovely people. We thought it’d be fun to show you all a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to go to a convention as a fledgling art studio. Wish us luck as we do our first convention! Regardless of how this one goes, we plan on doing many more in the future even after this first attempt. If you’re interested in continuing to follow our journey, then please stay tuned to all things Bear & Pixie as we will regularly update you on how that all goes right here in these newsblogs!

3) A New Ninja Turtles Film That Captures the True Heart of the Turtles –
From the Animated Movie Division of the Department of Storytelling
Not too long ago, Pixie and I went to our local theater and watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem that came out at the beginning of August. As some of you may know, I’m a huge Ninja Turtles fan. However, for this movie, I had mixed expectations for the film as I didn’t know how it would turn out. After watching it though, I can say that it is one of the best Turtles movies, and animated movies, of all time. For me, the best part of this movie is undoubtedly the casting for the Turtles and how well the film nails the chemistry/nature of the four turtles so well. It feels like a more authentic experience watching these four actual teenagers portray the four Ninja Turtles in a genuine, real way that adds a whole layer of awesomeness to the movie on its own. Some other things about the soundtrack that I loved were its soundtrack and pacing as I felt like all the different points of the film were beautifully scored and didn’t overstay their welcome throughout the whole narrative. However, for me, there are some negatives to the movie as well. The general art style of the movie was a hit and miss for me as there were parts of it that looked gorgeous and other bits that looked atrocious. Specifically, the design of the humans in the movie especially were a little too grungy and misshapen for my liking. Also, the writing throughout the movie had its ups and downs as it felt like the dialogue in the movie would consistently throw off the tone just to have another funny or gross moment to add some more humor. In any case, I really enjoyed the film and, even though I don’t necessarily like all the different creative choices made by the film itself, I believe it is worth a watch. At Bear & Pixie, we give this movie a solid 7 out of 10. If you have some time to kill on a night, and are an avid TMNT fan, then you will want to go check this out at your local theater. So, what are you waiting for?! Go to your local theater and check this show out before it leaves the big screen! [WE ARE NOT SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANY. 4) Artist Shout-Out -
From the Artist Relations Department
Our pick for this newsblog’s Artist Shout-Out goes to the incredible illustrator Gerard Quixon. Listed below are links to Gerard’s Instagram and Store where you can find a ton of his top-notch art which is characterized by amazingly vibrant colors, spectacular use of light and shading, and a whole lot of vibrancy that shines through each illustration. In our opinion, all these factors make Gerard’s art worthy of a follow on Instagram. Also, if you feel so inclined, this amazing artist’s Patreon link is below if you would like to support Gerard any further. [We are not sponsored by Gerard Quixon. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

5) Another New Season, Even More Disappointment –
From the Animated Show Division of the Storytelling Department
A little bit ago, Pixie and I sat down and watched all the newest season of Dragon Prince. In one of our last newsblogs, we reviewed Season 4 of Dragon Prince and I unfortunately have to say that this season falls incredibly flat for us in the same way that the fourth season did. Again, most notably, it feels like the story, dialogue, and the characters were all written horribly. For the second season in a row, the show becomes this super predictable, boring, and exposition filled mess that has its pacing all over the place. For us, we were rolling your eyes at the absurd levels of corniness that the studio making the show for some reason thought they should continue to put into the show. I make it sound like this season completely sucks but, to be fair, there are some good elements to it. In last season’s review, we wrote that “there are some awesome moments for all the villains in this season that further their characters in unique, interesting ways” but that “for the heroes, they get completely shafted in terms of character development and dialogue in this season to the point where you actively start to dislike some of your favorite characters because of how poorly they were written this season.” Oddly, it feels like this has flipped. The villains’ writing goes down the toilet in this season while the writing for the heroes got a little bit better. It seems like a hard task for the studio behind Dragon Prince to find a consistent footing in its quality and, hopefully, Season 6 will be an upgrade from the last two. For all these reasons, we at the Bear and Pixie Art Studio give this season of Dragon Prince a 5 out of 10 on the official Bear & Pixie rating system as this season is probably the worst out of all the seasons of this show so far. This fifth season displays how the story really doesn’t feel like it has anywhere meaningful to go while also not justifying why it needed to be continued at all from the last season. For this show’s quality to become better, the showrunners need to come in and add a bit more gravitas, better dialogue, and increase the characterization a bit for it to truly start going back in the right direction. If you feel so inclined to watch this season of Dragon Prince, you can check it out by clicking on the picture below on Netflix if you have a subscription. For any Dragon Prince fan, you will still probably want to watch it anyway to make sure you haven’t missed anything when it comes to the overall story of the series.
