Seeking a New Path!
Greetings Amazing Acolytes!
We have a stellar weekly update that we hope you find entertaining and uplifting! Today, we’ll be talking about the status of our webcomic project, some great entertainment recommendations for you lovely people, and some other little tidbits that we’d like to share with you. We hope this newsblog brings some joy and fun into your week!
1) Going in a New Direction! -
From the Department of Project Management
If you saw our last update, you know that we discussed the status of Soul Canvas, the webcomic project we’ve been working on for the last couple of months. Really, this came from a place of not having enough passion or solid foundation to really move that project forward. In response, Pixie and I have been kicking around ideas for a different story that we could pursue for our goal of creating a webcomic. This last week, it seems like Pixie and I have been really interested in a story idea that we think you all might be interested in. We don’t want to share anything in this post yet other than the working title that we currently have for the project. This webcomic idea is currently called Ulterior Motive. We know that isn’t much to give you, but hopefully it satiates your appetite for this week. Soon, we hope to share a bunch more with you about this project as I continue to iron out the story, develop the characters, and build the world. Now, don’t worry, if a bunch of you were interested in where Soul Canvas was going, there may still be a chance that we come back to develop it into its full webcomic form at some point in the future. However, in the meantime, we ask that you all stay tuned to all our normal channels to hear more in the coming weeks!
2) The Unholy Trinity of Heroes! –
From the Department of Animated Storytelling
Recently, I showed Pixie this gem of a movie that I don’t think gets enough great press and that movie is Justice League: Gods and Monsters. This movie came to mind as we were talking about the new Morbius movie that was put out and that I knew of another example of a “living vampire” that turned out to be a great part of a fantastic story. Pixie instantly was interested in this movie when I talked about how the movie centers around seeing a darker adaptation of our DC Trinity of heroes in Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. What followed was a great time watching a movie that has incredibly multi-faceted characters, great pacing that doesn’t waste a minute of the movie’s time throughout, and all the while does it while also being a great murder mystery movie! Pixie was thoroughly impressed with the movie and thought it was one of the best all-around superhero movies that she’d seen. I tend to agree with her on this one as, in my opinion, it’s so good that you can watch it multiple times without it ever dropping in quality. Now, do be warned, it is a little more gory than most superhero movies. However, if that doesn’t matter for you then this is a movie you absolutely must watch. We give this movie a 9 out of 10 on the official Bear and Pixie Art Studio rating scale for its rewatchability, quality of story and characters, and spectacular writing. So please, if you feel so inclined, go watch this ASAP! If you have an HBOMax subscription, you can watch it there. [WE ARE NOT SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANY. 3) Artist Shout-Out -
From the Artist Relations Department
Our pick for this week’s Artist Shout-Out goes to Chelsea Blecha who works as a Visual Development Artist at Dreamworks Animation! Chelsea’s stuff is so fun and great that it’s no wonder that she has a dream job with animation studio making the same stuff for their projects. All her work has lots of fun energy exuding from it and practically bounces off the page when you look at it. Her work is definitely worthy of a follow so please check out her Instagram to see her work and, if you feel so inclined, go onto her Linktree to check out more of her stuff or support her through there! 4) Tech Powered by Algae Batteries?! Is this for real?! -
From the Fascinating News Division
Just recently, I saw this fascinating article on IFLScience.com that reported how scientists have been developing a new kind of battery that runs on the processes that Cyanobacteria partake in daily! This battery, which isn’t much bigger than a AA battery, was able to power a computer for six months. Want to learn more about this battery and the technological ideas behind it? Check out the article in the link below! [We are NOT sponsored by any news organization. We are just wanting to share something cool with our incredible fans.]

5) A Quintessential Comic That Every Comic Geek Needs to Read! –
From the Storytelling Division of the Comics Department
It seems like I have been on a big DC Comics kick lately! Not only have I recommended some DC stuff last week and for this week’s animated storytelling section, I’ll be recommending another DC Comics storyline for you all to check out. This week’s comic spot goes to this classic, quintessential comics story DC put out a while ago called Kingdom Come. This story deals with the idea of a whole new generation of ultra-violent heroes who are willing to kill their enemies or do whatever it takes to win fights no matter what the cost. This new breed of hero rises in popularity within the DC Universe that makes all the heroes we know and love quit being heroes for a while. The interesting aspect of this story, written by Mark Waid and illustrated by the legendary Alex Ross, is how the heroes of old not only clash with these new heroes but how they also clash with one another as they work to save the world from a global catastrophe that is just on the horizon. This comic has inspired countless other stories within the DC Comics sphere for many years after it was released and for good reason! It’s well written, has stellar art, and explores some fascinating story ideas in a way that still feels fresh no matter what time or place you read it in. I cannot recommend this book enough as I believe it is reading that any comic fan should absolutely read at least once in their life for its top-notch storytelling and wonderful art that electrifies each page. It definitely gets a 10 out of 10 rating here on the Bear & Pixie Art Studio and, if you’d like to check it out for yourself, please feel free to do so by clicking on the picture below to find this book available for purchase on Amazon!
