Dad Vibes on Terrible Twosome
Howdy Bombastic Believers!
I can’t believe we’re already almost halfway through September! In this newsblog, we’ll be giving you a closer work at one of our supporting characters that you’ll find in our upcoming webcomic, show you some great entertainment that you should check out, and share other fun stuff. As always, we’re hoping this newsblog brings some joy and fun into your week!
1) A Look at Our Dearest Dad in Terrible Twosome! -
From the Visual Development Division
This week, we thought it would be a fun idea to start sharing some of the other characters that will be starring in our upcoming webcomic, Terrible Twosome, alongside our twins Addy and Andy. As we developed this character, I’ve always imagined him looking a lot like Eddy Burback. Don’t ask me why, but for some reason I think his look would be perfect for our fatherly character, Aaron Adkins, that will be guiding our terrible twins through their crazy childhood. Now, like we’ve said before, every character will continue to change over time but, in the first year of the comic’s life, this is what we’ve settling on Aaron looking like going forward. Over time, he may end up looking different depending on the season of life the family is going through. Like always, our main mission with this project is to create a comic that all people can’t wait to keep reading, laugh a ton with as they scroll through each panel, and create a story that is both heartwarming as well as something that all people can become emotionally invested in. If you like what you see here, and would like to see more in the future, keep your eyes peeled for all things Bear & Pixie Art Studio for more updates on Terrible Twosome!
2) An Lukewarm Pokémon Movie –
From the Anime Movie Division of the Department of Animated Storytelling
Pixie and I recently watched one of the newer Pokémon movies just to see if any of them are decently good. The one we chose, recommended by YouTube Jellopocalypse as the best of the “new” Pokémon movies, was Pokémon: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel. We do have to say, this is a decent Pokémon movie. Ash is up to his usual shenanigans with different legendary Pokémon and there is some decent character development throughout the story. However, this movie suffers from having too many unfamiliar supporting characters who all don’t have enough development for themselves and who are also boring to watch in the first place. If these characters were either replaced by more mainstay characters that have that great characterization already (Misty, Brock, Dawn, etc.,), or were just given more characterization within the film, this movie would have been infinitely better. Other than that, the show has some good animation, great musical score, and a decent plot that doesn’t really drag all that much from start to finish. If you’re looking for an average movie to watch on a night with friends or family and don’t have anything else to really watch, this would be a good pick. Here at Bear and Pixie Art Studio, we’d give this one an official rating of 5 out of 10. It is a very average movie with some fun beats here and there that make it worth watching when you’ve got nothing else on your watchlist. If you’re interested in seeing this one for yourself, you can watch it by clicking the picture below or by viewing it on-demand through your favorite streaming service. 3) Artist Shout-Out -
From the Artist Relations Department
Our pick for this week’s Artist Shout-Out goes to the amazing illustrator Catana Chetwynd. Catana has one of the best webcomics around with her comic You Are Home that she posts on a very regular basis. This comic follows Catana, and their fiancé, living life together in a wonderfully written, cutely illustrated slice-of-life comic that Pixie and I love reading whenever a new comic comes out on Instagram. If you’re looking for a great webcomic to read, and a great creator to follow, Catana is a great pick as their comics is always engaging and fun. If you feel up to it, we highly recommend giving Catana a follow on Instagram and checking out Ax’s website to support their comic. Heck, maybe even pre-order their upcoming book with a collection of their comics while you’re at it! [We are not sponsored by Catana. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

4) Scientists are Developing Walking Robots to Possibly Be Used to Research Other Planets! -
From the Fascinating News Division
Just recently, I saw this article talking about how different scientists were starting to test how feasible it would be to have walking robots explore new worlds and gather scientific information about them across space! How cool would that be? They say that these new robots would be designed to handle planetary exploration more flexibly by navigating landscapes more easily as well as have more of an adaptive set of programming to be able to research planets in real time based on moment-to-moment interactions they have with what’s going on during their exploration. Interested to find out more about this topic? Go check out the article to find out for yourself! [We are NOT sponsored by any news organization. We are just wanting to share something cool with our incredible fans.]

5) A Throwback Recommendation that is Still Fun to Watch Years Later! –
From the Animated Show Division of the Storytelling Department
Last week, I just had this itch to watch a show I grew up on called Xiaolin Showdown and, I must say, it’s still pretty good almost 20 years later. Xiaolin Showdown follows the story of four young warriors-in-training as they embark to defend the world from evil forces who are seeking legendary objects of power called Shen Gong Wu. It is up to these four young warriors to defned the world and protect these Shen Gong Wu at all costs lest the world fall to darkness. When rewatching this, I made sure to leave my nostalgia goggles firmly off to truly measure the quality of it authentically. Honestly, it isn’t bad! It’s got great characterization, good overall plot, and has a great musical score throughout. Now, to be completely transparent for this review, the show does suffer from unnecessary filler episodes, tired story ideas for some episodes that have been done better several times over in other shows, and some jokes that don’t land from time to time. However, this show makes up for it when the overarching story gets rolling, when it focuses on its characters, and really plays into its worldbuilding. Heck, it still outclasses even some modern animated content that’s come out in recent years! Here at Bear & Pixie Art Studio, we give this show an official rating of a 7 out of 10. It’s a notch above average and we think, if you give it a chance, that you’d end up loving this show too. If you feel so inclined to do so, you can watch this show by purchasing it on your favorite on-demand streaming service! [We are NOT sponsored by any company. We are only giving a genuine opinion/recommendation.]
